Sagana & Perasanth's Elegant South Asian Wedding at Pearson Convention Centre

There's a particular kind of joy that fills a room during a South Asian wedding a South Asian wedding. The colour, the rhythm, the sense that an entire family is celebrating together rather than just a couple. That's exactly what I walked into on May 3, 2024, at Pearson Convention Centre in Mississauga, when Sagana and Perasanth tied the knot surrounded by the people who love them most.
From the very first moment, this day felt different in the best way. Sagana's smile, genuinely one of the most radiant I've had the pleasure of photographing, set the tone for everything that followed. It's the kind of smile that makes your job easy, because you're simply chasing a light that's already there.
The Details
Before the ceremony, I spent time capturing the quiet moments that set the tone for the day, a Ganesh idol, a diya/vilakku glowing beside the morning's pooja items, the wedding invitation resting against the grooms pearl necklace and the couple's rings tucked among leaves. Jewelry laid out piece by piece, a bottle of perfume, bangles catching candlelight on a mirrored tray. These details are easy to overlook in the excitement of the day, but they tell as much of the story as anything else, and on this one, they carried a warmth that matched everything that followed.
Getting Ready
Sagana's getting-ready moments were pure quiet elegance; details of her fingers running through her bangles and the veil settling over an emerald and gold lehenga heavy with embroidery. In front of an ornate mirror surrounded by candlelight, she turned slowly to check every angle, her reflection doubling the moment.
Meanwhile, Perasanth was surrounded by his own quiet ritual. A cream sherwani, a turban carefully wrapped, his dupatta/shawl placed on his shoulder by his mother, the thiruneeru/holy ash placed across his forehead by his father, and the genuine smiles caught candidly between him and his siblings, was one of those unscripted moments you can't ask for. You just have to be ready for it.
Family and Emotion
If there's one thing that defined this wedding, it was family. Every blessing from a parent, every hand adjusting a turban or veil, every unscripted laugh shared across the room is what I love most about photographing weddings. The love isn't reserved for the couple alone; it radiates outward to everyone in the room, and my favourite images from the day are the ones that caught that love when no one was posing for the camera.
The Ceremony
The ceremony opened with traditional rituals and the priest reciting holy mantras. Perasanth waited at the mandap. Then Sagana arrived. In her stunning deep emerald lehenga, she walked the aisle surrounded by her bridesmaids in lavender silk, a bouquet of red and white roses in hand. The look on Perasanth's face as he watched her approach the mandap said more than any caption could.
What followed was a ceremony rich with tradition and warmth. Garlands exchanged with laughter as much as love, and family members stepping in for blessings. Sagana changed into a radiant red silk saree for the remainder of the ceremony, her jasmine-adorned hair catching the light as Perasanth tied the Thaali. Rose petals rained down over the couple.
The ceremony closed in complete joy after they completed the seven sacred steps together, and the couple playfully find the hidden rings in the vessal "the nalangu game." Every ritual was met with the attention of both families gathered close, and every glance between Sagana and Perasanth throughout was warm, easy, and unmistakably in love.
Celebration
The reception carried that same joy forward into the evening with dancing, speeches, and candid emotion. The kind of night where everyone let their guard down and simply celebrated.
